Summer is Going Fast!

I looked back and realized that I haven't updated in awhile.  Summer is blowing by---can't believe it is already 4th of July weekend coming up!

Happenings this summer
Not much out of the ordinary.  Spending lots of time with Vivian---going to the park, Lake George, playing outside, etc.  She loves anything including water (as long as it isn't sprinkling down on top of her!).  She is also into her watercolor paints and making cards/pictures with markers and stickers.

Vivian is in Pike Swim lessons every Tuesday, which she looks forward to---she is learning to backfloat and a basic front swim (can you tell I'm not a big swimmer?).  She things dunking her head under the water is the coolest thing now that she does it!

All things baby:
Well, this baby is giving me a whole new set of challenges this go 'round...
At 27 weeks, the baby measured 3 lbs. 4 oz. (typically they are nearing 2lbs at this stage).  At 30 weeks, I was already experiencing contractions, although not regular in any sense.  The pressure has been immense--sometimes bringing me to tears (this is the first real time I think I've complained about anything during pregnancies....give me a little room to whine).  At almost 32 weeks, the contractions are still there---annoying and irregular---and I can't seem to find a good way to relieve the pressure (except in the water).  Driving even a 1/2 hour away is super uncomfortable...grrr...

Docs are planning on doing an ultrasound in 3 weeks to determine further the size and development.  They could be off on the due date but also might want to induce at 37 weeks.  I have mixed feelings about that, but that is another story altogether.

What is awesome is the many flips and wiggles this baby has had--makes us smile and laugh many times a day.  We're having fun sorting through Vivian's baby stuff and starting to get the room ready.  Vivian is anxious for the baby "just to be out of mommy's tummy already!"  I think she is missing the lap space that I had for her!

In other news, we are beginning construction on our deck---hopefully that will be completed and stained well before college friends come to visit the first week in August!  Oh, and we're hanging out with neighbors quite a bit and getting to know them, which is good fun!

If you haven't put in your guess for the baby pool, (date, weight, height, etc.) please do so!  Vivian had lots of people guessing...this time around...not so much---but I do put it in the baby book....so get on it!  (And get those around you that don't check internet/mail!)

Updates

Had an ultrasound last week--baby is 3lbs. 4oz. and developing well.  We also got 4D pictures which I'll have to post soon....as soon as I get them scanned and stuff.

Monday's Dr Appt was short and sweet.  141 BPM heartrate for the little one, which is spot-on.  My blood pressure is good at 117/78.

I'm at the doctors office again today sitting through the 3 hour glucose test.  Thanks in part to genetics, I failed my 1 hour test this time around.  That test was taken 4 weeks ago, but there was a mix-up and I wasn't notified about the need to do the 3 hour.  (Which, if you've never done it, is excruciating because I haven't eaten since 8:00 last night and it is now almost lunchtime.  Baby is completely pissed off by this....if the swirling and kicking inside is any indication!)

All of this on the last day of school for students.  I'm missing the fun field trip---oh well.  Tomorrow we help Sandburg Middle School pack up and close its doors.  Friday is finishing up at our school for the summer.  Grades are done....stuff is packed...I'm ready for some time off!   :)

Adam heads to Canada Thursday night for the week long guys' trip.  Hope everything goes well and no one gets hurt (or too sunburned!).

Congrats!

To friends Alyssa and Ryan (and their daughter, Gabby) on the birth of a second girl, Evelyn Violet!  Born last night at 5:04pm!  Beautiful family!

Updates....

Vivian:
She is almost done at Judy's for the year (her daycare) which she is totally excited about but has also asked if the kids and Judy can come play at HER house this summer....

Her dance recital is this coming weekend---Sat and Sun performances.  She can't wait to dance on the big stage with her daddy, but informed me that she might be just a little scared by herself (but assures me that she will look SUPER cute in her tutu!  What a cutie.)

Memorial day weekend was spent in her new pool--she enjoys playing with her neighbor friends.  She is becoming more social with them, to my delight, and is planning other summer events with them such as movie nights and backyard campouts complete with smores and tents!  (Hey, don't the parents get a say in all of this????)  :)

She talks to the baby a lot and likes to feel the baby move.  She can't decide if she wants a brother or a sister (which is good, since she doesn't have a choice).  She thinks it is funny when she "squishes" the baby by giving him/her BIG hugs!

Baby 'Baum
Still doesn't have a name.  Suggestions being taken.

Has another ultrasound this week to check up on the size--he/she is growing very well and is a very active little bugger.

Developmentally, the babe weighs in around 2 lbs.  She/He's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her/his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his/her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While the lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if baby was to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on.

Things are going well, although I find that I cannot sit for very long periods anymore.  (we tried going to see Iron Man 2 and it got pretty uncomfortable at the end of the movie).

My Feelings Exactly

So, I go into Vivian's room to wake her up this morning.  She takes one look at me with one eye open, pulls the covers over her head and says, "I just want it to be the weekend."  Me too my little girl, me too.

Send a Prayer

I received the news this morning that a close friend and old roomie of mine lost her baby girl (she was exactly 20 weeks pregnant).  Here's a portion of her email.  I know a lot of you know Corrie....

Matt and I lost a baby girl this weekend.  I was exactly 20 weeks when I delivered her.

My water broke unexpectedly Saturday morning around 9:15 am, while I was trying to sleep in.  We went directly to the Hospital in Wild Rose where they ran some tests and comfirmed it was my amniotic fluid.  I was then transferred to Meriter in Madison, WI.  My OB was on call.  The ultrasound showed a strong healthy baby but there was no fluid left for the baby to survive.   She died before delivery.   I delivered a baby girl at 4:30am yesterday, April 25th.  We named her, MacKenzie Ann.  She was beautiful.

We will be having a service this week to help mourn our loss, I will have details later this afternoon.   Most likely will be Thursday or Friday.

She was 10 inches and 12.5 oz.

I'm just sick with this news and my heart is hurting for this family.  Send a prayer loaded with love and support.  It is times like this when I have no concept of what God's bigger plan is.  It is hard to imagine why He would need this little life up in heaven more than Corrie and Matt needed this life here on Earth.

We're having a.......

BABY!!!!

We had our 20 week ultrasound yesterday which went really well.  Melissa, our tech, was great as she talked us through everything that we were seeing on the screen.  It never ceases to amaze me when I hear the tiny little heartbeat or see the chambers of the heart and other teeny, tiny little parts of this human being that we've created.  The baby is 14 oz.---she said that he/she will reach 1 lb. in the next week, which is right on target.  I checked back on our past blog and Vivian was exactly 14 oz. at her 20 week ultrasound too.  I think the two kids have different profiles....but I'll let you decide!
The tech knows what we are having, but we decided not to find out....well, we WILL find out...in August.  Or September.

Ok, so HERE'S VIVIAN'S profile...you compare!  (Ok, so on the computer, that is REALLY hard to do!)

And here's one more picture...but you'll probably have to turn your head, squint a bit, use your imagination and overall just pretend you see what I explain.

This picture is a side view of baby's leg---thigh, knee, calf, heel, foot, toes....not straight out, but in a bent, "runner" fashion.

The thigh is coming down on the right, knee bottom right, then kicks up 45 degree angle to heel/foot.

And While You Are Here...

We're struggling with names....BIG surprise, right?  (We decided Vivian's name AT THE HOSPITAL).

So---we need boys' names and girls' names, since we're not finding out this time!  (A boy would probably have Seth or James as a middle name and we like girls' names that end in "a" but are open to all suggestions!)

Thanks!

It's About That Time Again....

To start up the baby guessing pool.  Winner gets a $10 gift card to Target!  Or not.  Maybe just bragging rights in the baby book!

Submit:
Gender
Date of Birth (current due date is Aug 28---went into labor on Viv's due date, had her two days later)
weight  (Vivian was 8 lbs. 13 oz.)
length (Vivian was 20 inches)
time of birth (Vivian was 2:45am)

Ok, so comment below with some predictions!

Update Week 17

Hi all-
Week 16 checkup went well---baby is a little Kung Fu Panda and is often kicking and squirming around.  That has been a lot of fun!

I took the Quad screen (which tests for abnormalities like Downs Syndrome) and everything came back normal---yea!

I do have ANOTHER infection, but I haven't called the Dr. back yet this morning to find out what kind.  They don't seem too worried, but I don't like the idea of more medications in my body.

Right now, baby is about 5 ounces and 5 inches long (turnip size)!

Our ultrasound is set for Wed, April 16 at 4:00 pm.  Adam and possibly Vivian will be going to this one!

Fun Fun Fun!

As it is almost 15 weeks, the little lemon (3.5 inches long) is moving around lots!  It is so much fun that I can feel Baby Dos moving!

Congratulations to the many (17) people that I know that are expecting this year....special congrats to Corrie and Matt for their (multiple tries) SUCCESSFUL IVF treatment!  Phew!

***I have just been notified that the count is actually 18!!!!   Congratulations proud mommies and daddies to be!!!***

12 Week Appointment!

This morning I went to the doctor to check on the little squirt!  It was a good, quick appointment.  The little bugger's heartbeat is nice and solid.  For all, and I mean ALL, the eating I've been doing (to the point of being TIRED of eating), I've gained just over a pound.

We also decided to go to the new Maple Grove hospital, which is beautiful!  I'm glad that my doctor delivers there!  And the bonus is that they let siblings under the age of 5 in the labor/delivery wing, which is NOT the case for other unnamed aread hospitals!

First Trimester.....Check! 195 Days to Go!!!

Well, we've officially made it through the first trimester!  Yea!  Not much is new in our world....looking forward to a doctor's appointment on Wednesday.  It seems like so much time in between appointments and when the baby is still so small, you can't really feel it moving around---so I get a little anxious that everything is alright.

Anyways, here's what's going on in baby's world....

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, toes will curl, eye muscles will clench, and baby's mouth will make sucking movements.  Baby is about the size of a lime---weighing in at 1/2 oz.

I'm doing ok.  Still a lot of cramping which has been rough, but otherwise, feeling fine!  (Fat, but fine!)  :)

9 Weeks, 3 days!

Baby is growing....

S/He is about an inch long now....
Baby's heart is finished dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form -- as do tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. Eyes are fully formed, but the eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. S/he has tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct.

Heartbeat is a steady 157 BPM, which I got to hear during the early ultrasound I had last week!  Our official U/S is at 20 weeks---we'll bring Vivian to that one.

Vivian's reaction when we showed her the pictures of her growing baby sister or brother:
She looks and says, "Why can't I touch the baby?  Why can't I watch it grow?"

I'm feeling a bit different with this baby
....dizziness is still a factor---about 3-4 times a day (with Vivian it was 3-4 times total).
....hunger....much more hungry this time around.   Seems like every 2 hours...
....skin is breaking out.  yuck.

Still no morning sickness, which is AWESOME!  I don't feel as tired this time around, which is GREAT!  All is good!

Lil' Peanut---8 weeks 5 days

Viv LOVES being in the water!

Update.

The doctor was very concerned that we had an ectopic pregnancy on our hands (baby implanted in tube, rather than uterus).  So....I got some worst case scenarios and was whisked off to the ultrasound tech in Fridley.

GOOD NEWS:  Baby is fine and is safely bouncing around in utero.

NOT GREAT NEWS:  There is a cyst on my right ovary which is what is causing some of the pain.  The doctor is hopeful that it is hormonal and due to the pregnancy, in which case it will go away by itself.  BUT....that could take a long time....months, in fact.  If it is anything else, they really can't do anything about it during the pregnancy anyways.  So, I'm supposed to call back this afternoon to discuss some pain management, as I can barely stand up straight.

***When I talked with Reena, she indicated that a UTI that was found can also be the source of some of the pain (never had one of those!).  So, I have some mild antibiotics that I have to pick up today---hope that helps a little.***

GREAT NEWS:  I got fun little pictures of our little peanut!  I'll post them later!

Going In....

I've had severe cramping last night and today, so the doctor wants me to come in at 9:30 to make sure that everything is still A- OK.  I'll post in a bit!

It's FRIDAY!!!

After a hard week with Gigi's funeral, it is FRIDAY....and I'm SO looking forward to a relatively quiet weekend at home.  Ok, so we still have to work tomorrow....but still!

Go Vikings on Sunday!

Week 7---A little Blueberry!!!

Two differences that I've noticed so far.  I'm much more dizzy than with Vivian....and hungry.  That seems weird to me after only 7 weeks.  I hope it's not TWINS!  Yikes.  (I have crazy freakout dreams about twins.)

Here's some details about a growing baby at 7 weeks:

How Big is the Baby at Seven Weeks Pregnant?
During pregnancy week 7 your baby will grow tremendously, up to 13 mm in length! Your baby is much closer to the size of a large blueberry or small grape by 7 weeks pregnant than a pea.

Your Baby's Growth and Development
At 7 weeks facial features become more prominent in your newborn. Upon close investigation you may be able to discern a mouth and even a tongue (you actually can't see the tongue, but it is forming inside your baby!). During  week 7 your baby's eyes will also start to become more fully formed, and now have a retina and lens attached. The major muscle systems in the body also continue to develop during pregnancy week 7, and your baby begins to produce his own blood type. Your baby's movements will be uncoordinated at best at this point during pregnancy, but rest assured your little one is squirming about his new home.

If you were to look directly at your baby you would still be able to see slight webbing in the fingers and toes during pregnancy 7 weeks. Teeth are also starting to form on the inside of your baby's mouth, and thin veins start to peer out from beneath your baby's skin. Your baby's intestines and appendix should be formed by now. By this time your baby's liver is working diligently to start producing red blood cells. Your baby should be bouncing right along in his comfy and warm home!

6 Weeks....Almost 7....

We won't go to the doctor again until Mid-February---but here's what's going on with baby!

This week's major developments:

The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

How am I feeling?

Pretty good, overall--I'm feeling a bit like I did the first time, although I'm not nearly as tired as I was the first time around. I'm only about halfway through the 1st trimester though, so that could set in soon, for all I know! I haven't felt nauseous at all (which is AWESOME!)...since that usually sets in by now, I hope that I'm once again blessed with NO SICKNESS!

I have had dizziness with more frequency than last time. Not terrible, but definitely stops me in my tracks for a minute.

Emotional? Yes. A rollercoaster. I'm not sure how much is pregnancy related or how much is related to what is going on with our grandmas and grandpa... But, I'm sure that a crazy surge of hormones has a lot to do with it!

How We Told the Locals

We didn't wait too long to share our news this time. Mostly, it was because we wanted to let Grandma Audrey know before she became too ill.

We waited to tell Vivian until the morning that we were headed to Bloomington to visit Audrey and Rick, Karen and Catie (visiting from California). She seemed pretty excited, although I'm not sure she quite understands yet.

I made Vivian a shirt to wear. On the front, it says, "Guess What? I have a secret..." and on the back, it says, "I'm going to be a BIG SISTER!" We told her she could take her hoodie off whenever she wanted to in order to share the news.

Because the hospice nurse was at Audrey's meeting with the siblings and her, we went to Jane and Jon's in Bloomington first. Cousin Daniel was there as well as Great Grandpa Sig. SO---Viv showed Daniel, Jon and Sig her shirt first!

Then, we headed to Audrey's where Viv shared the news with Kay and Jane, then Audrey, and then everyone else! It was really fun to share some GOOD news at a time when we are all struggling with news of the terminal cancer in Audrey that is spreading so fast.
---------------------------------
On Tuesday (because they were out of town), we went over to the Weigands to share the news with Adam's sister and her family. Vivian wanted to wear her shirt again and quickly shared the news with her cousins. We had to tell Julie by phone because we had to leave before she got home, but Vivian still did the talking!

A New Blog, A New Chapter In Our Lives

Welcome!
We're expecting! Again!

I enjoyed journaling during the pregnancy, birth and first year of our daughter's life, so I've decided to resume journaling for Baby #2. (I really need to come up with a nickname besides Baby #2).

As with last time, some info is purely factual---and possibly more for me than anything, but I love looking back on the various stages of growth and development. This time around, it might be fun to throw in some "Vivian-isms" too!

So, sit back, enjoy the updates, comment when you wish.....
